Donald Trump lit up Twitter yesterday with tweets calling Mueller’s Russia investigation a ‘failed coup’ and a ‘three year hoax’.
He was responding to a Fox News report of the explosive remarks made by FBI agent William J. Barnett in an interview with DOJ officials.
The report revealed details of newly declassified government documents, outlining the remarks made by Barnett in an interview with an investigator working on the Durham probe, which is reviewing the Russia investigation for any potential misconduct.
Barnett was initially working on the investigation into General Flynn, and said that he found this to be ‘opaque’, ‘unclear and disorganized’ and built on ‘supposition on supposition’. After six weeks of working on the investigation he said he was ‘still unsure of the basis of the investigation concerning Russia and the Trump Campaign working together, without a specific criminal allegation.’
Barnett says that he briefed Mueller’s team on the Flynn investigation, but did not want to join the special counsel’s probe, describing one attorney on the team as ‘obsessed’ and having ‘an agenda.’ He added that FBI agent Peter Strzok persuaded him to join the Mueller team, but he did so reluctantly.
In the end, Barnett says that Strzok pleaded with him to join Mueller’s team, and that he did so reluctantly. He said that he hoped he could counter some of the ‘group think’ on the team, as he felt that some of the members had a ‘get Trump’ attitude.
He said that attorneys on Mueller’s team were ‘desperate to be part of something ‘big’ and were looking for something criminal, undeterred by lack of evidence.
The Durham probe is continuing to explore these reports into the alleged misconduct of the FBI. This is only part of the picture, of how the Democrats and the FBI have worked together to try and bring Trump down.
From the Russia probe, the Flynn investigation, to the impeachment inquiry, they have worked tirelessly to ‘get Trump’, as Barnett aptly describes. The travesty is that the majority of the mainstream media continue to collude with this misinformation and media bias, in spite of clear evidence of potential misdeeds.
Whilst these snippets of information are coming out, and Attorney General William Barr has called the FBI probe leading to the Mueller investigation, known as Crossfire Hurricaine, one of the ‘greatest travesties in American history’, it is not yet known when Durham will release his final report. If it happens before the election, it will not doubt be very damaging to Biden. It could end up being the Republican’s October surprise.
